November
November is a series of 18 images which I created while grieving the loss of my father. The technique used for this work is etching and aquatint; a process of many stages, requiring time and patience. Etching has a very physical aspect to it: it is messy, tangible and demanding. The time spent on each stage of the process reflects the changes that occurred in me during the course of grieving.
My Father died in November, my children were born in November, as was I.
“It is a huge danger to pretend that awful things do not happen. But you need enough hope to keep going. I am trying to make hope. Flowers grow out of darkness.”
– Sister Corita Kent (also born in November)
